Restoration Crew - GeneralPosted: Apr 24, 2025Closing Date: May 9, 2025 Job ID: Land Management Job Description6 Positions Term - March 31, 2026 (with possible extension) GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Restoration Crew members assist with seed collection, cleaning and growing seeds, cultural burns, thinning and brushing, ecosystem maintenance and health on the Blood Reserve (#148 & #148A-Blood Timber Limit). The main objective of the crew members is collecting seeds, site preparation and clean up, growing plants, and utilizing restoration techniques to enhance ecosystem health. Responsibilities include assisting in ecosystem restoration and enhancement techniques incorporating Blackfoot Ecological Knowledge and Western Science methods.This objective will assist with the long-term sustainability of Blood Tribe ecosystem health by establishing reciprocal relationships with the environment. Crew members will assist in sharing this knowledge through community information sessions, citizen science, and other related BTLM communication platforms. This position involves collaborating with Blood Tribe Elders, community members, departments and entities, and provincial, federal, and non-government agencies.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS: Report to the Guardians Coordinator, Lead Crew members, and Environmental Protection Manager.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: · Perform all duties and responsibilities per Blood Tribe Administration Personnel Policies and Procedures and the Blood Tribe Land Management Department Operational Policy Manual. · Assist with implementing restoration projects to gather information for proper management and monitoring of plant and wildlife communities. · Assist with inventorying and monitoring plant and wildlife communities and entering information into the database. · Assist with plant and wildlife analysis for restoration projects. · Assist in mapping field data information. · Assist with stakeholders and public engagement to explore ecosystem management options. · Provide information for schools, clubs, and interest groups to educate members at large and special interest groups about sustainable resource development. · Prepare reports as required by the Guardians Coordinator. · Any other duties as assigned.
NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS: · Must possess knowledge of natural resources, ecosystem management or environmental studies. · Must possess good verbal and written communication skills. · Must be able to work as part of a team. · Must possess a high level of record-keeping and reporting skills. · Carry out duties and responsibilities promptly and courteously and always maintain professionalism. · Possess a working knowledge of computer hardware and software, including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, web browsers, GIS, and GPS. · Must be highly motivated with excellent initiative and an ability to work independently. · Must be physically fit. · Knowledge of the Blackfoot culture, specifically Blackfoot Ecological Knowledge (BEK), and an ability to communicate in the Blackfoot language would be an asset. · Must be willing to take additional training - Must be willing to endorse an oath of confiendiality.
