GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Surveyor Assistant helps to survey and gather data for use by the Roads Coordinator in designing roads and the Utilities Coordinator in designing sewer and water systems.  The incumbent assists in surveying and staking out the lay-out of new buildings, slope stakes new roads. Assists and ensures that the construction crew accurately reads and follows construction stakes.

 

 

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:

Reports directly to the Roads Coordinator.

 

 

AREA OF SUPERVISION:

  • Positions which generally report to the Surveyor include:
    • None

 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

            

  • Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Blood Tribe Administration Policies and Procedures and the Public Works Operations Manual.

 

  • Assists in land surveying on the Blood Reserve for new and reconstructed buildings, new and reconstructed roads and geographical information surveys.

 

  • Helps to gathers pertinent data required by the Roads Coordinator and the Utilities Coordinator in the design of construction drawings for new roads, buildings, and water and sewer lines.

 

  • Ensures that the lay-out of all construction stakes follows the project design developed by the Roads Coordinator.

 

  • Assists with technical equipment such as the Total Station Transit to coordinate the location of construction stakes.

 

  • Helps to record on site in a surveyor's log all survey information gathered, and all calculations completed in the field.

 

  • Assists the Roads Coordinator by making recommendations regarding the design of projects.

 

  • Assists in ensuring that the Road Construction Crew levels and grades the land according to the specifications of the construction stakes.

 

  • Assists in developing criteria for survey methods and procedures

 

  • Helps to direct aerial surveys of specified geographical areas.

 

  • Assists in other duties as assigned.

 

 

 

NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS:

  • Have good mathematical skills and be able to do calculations in the field.

 

  • Possess good verbal and written communication skills.

 

  • The ability to understand and interpret data.

 

  • Problem solving analysis.

 

  • Attention to detail.

 

  • Must have good organizational skills.

 

  • Must possess a basic knowledge of drafting and blueprint reading.

 

  • Must be highly motivated and be able to work independently.

 

  • The ability to work independently and part of a Team.

 

 

  • To communicate effectively in Blackfoot would be an asset.

Qualifications

NECESSARY TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Must have some specialized courses in surveying, must also have some knowledge in CAD or GIS Software.
  • Must possess a valid class 5 driver's license, and a reliable mode of transportation
  • Must submit an updated drivers abstract
