Head Start Instructor - GeneralPosted: Oct 21, 2025Closing Date: Nov 4, 2025 Job ID: FCSS Job DescriptionRE-POSTING Head Start Program - Family & Community Support Services Permanent/Seasonal GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Head Start Instructor will report directly to the Head Start Coordinator and will be responsible for the ongoing operation of instruction to the Head Start Centres. The instructors are an important member of the Head Start team which is committed to providing quality instruction services to the children and families involved in the Head Start Program.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS: - The Instructor reports directly to the Head Start Coordinator
AREA OF SUPERVISION: - Positions which report to the Instructor include: Assistant
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Blood Tribe Administration Personnel Policies and Procedures Manual. 2. Program Development and Delivery a) Along with the Coordinator and the other Centre Instructors, plan, implement, coordinate and evaluate yearly plans suitable for the children in the Centre based on the seven core components of Head Start ; b) Ensure that the instruction at the Centre is in English and Blackfoot and that this is adhered to by the Assistant, parent volunteers and other visitors; c) Is responsible for the Centre management and lead instruction; d) Involve Assistant and volunteers in Centre operations by planning activities for the children according to development levels; e) With input from the Assistant, develop the Centre’s schedules (daily, weekly, monthly) and include in submission of monthly reports; and f) Record and share observations about the child’s progress during parent/teacher interviews. 3. Program supervision a) Provide supervision of the Assistant, practicum students and parent volunteers to monitor program delivery and make recommendations when required to ensure the continuation of quality programming; b) Provide direct feedback, ongoing support, and direction to the Assistant, on a regular basis. 4. Personnel Function a) Motivate and encourage parents and caregivers to come into the Centre as observers and helpers and be active participants in their child’s experience in Head Start; b) Maintain positive working relationship with other Head Start staff, Blood Tribe Administration staff; and other departments/agencies involved with the centre; c) Along with the Assistant and Custodian, ensure the Centre is a clean and safe environment for the children daily and the staff under your supervision should clean and sanitize all toys on Fridays. 5. Staff Training a) Participate in professional development opportunities; and b) Based on observation and feedback, determine the types of training that would benefit the staff at your Centre. 6. Administrative Function a) Ensure that consent forms are obtained for off-site activities and that policies and procedures are adhered to; b) Work as a team and support operations as requested by the Head Start Coordinator; c) Maintain children, staff and volunteer records and documentation as required on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis; d) Maintain an open line of communication with parents to inform on Centre activities which may include parent meetings as a group or individually; and e) Take the lead in putting together the parent handbook on a yearly basis for the parents which explains the program in detail. f) Managing budgets for field trips. g) Is responsible for the yearly performance evaluation for the Assistant.
