Blood Tribe Early Learning & Child Care Centre

2 Positions

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Incumbent ensures that the janitorial tasks of the building are maintained to safeguard the facility for the children, staff and the public. The incumbent will perform light and heavy cleaning of the premises on a daily basis and ensures that the public areas are neat and tidy. Considerable physical movement is required in completing the required duties.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:

· The Custodian reports directly to the Blood Tribe ELCC Maintenance and Transportation Supervisor

AREA OF SUPERVISION:

-  Positions which generally report to the Custodian include:

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESONSIBLITIES:

  • Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Blood Tribe Administration Policies and Procedures Manual and the Family and Community Support Services Operations Manual.
  • Custodians will operate in a safe and efficient manner and be responsible for the daily maintenance and cleaning of the equipment used for facility cleaning.
  • The following responsibilities should be done on a weekly basis (or every other day): entrance rugs and mats must be vacuumed and cleaned throughout building. Areas must be washed, mopped with floor scrubbers walls along with doorways and window sills dusted, lobby chairs cleaned and reception desk dusted, head start and day care shelves moved and cleaned, windows washed.
  • The following responsibilities should be done on a monthly basis or as required: entrance rugs cleaned with carpet extractor, outside windows washed, valances dusted and vacuumed, door tops and light fixtures dusted.
  • Cleaning mop heads, dust mops and cleaning rags on a weekly basis.
  • Sweeping, washing and vacuuming of floors and entranceways on a daily basis.
  • Cleaning and disinfecting of all washrooms daily and replacing bathroom supplies such as toilet paper, paper towels and soap as required.
  • Spot cleans walls, doors, ceilings and cupboards and completes thorough clean up of facilities as required.
  • Washing inside and outside windows at all heights on a monthly basis.
  • Strips, waxes and buffs floors on a semi-annual basis.
  • Emptying trash receptacles on a daily basis and bringing them to garbage bin outside.
  • Maintains an inventory of janitorial supplies and informs supervisor when supplies are low on a monthly basis.
  • Reports any vandalism or suspicious activity as required.
  • Reports any maintenance problems such as faulty plumbing
  • Maintains a logbook of activities on a bi-weekly basis.
  • Any other duties as assigned.

 

NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS:

  • Must be organized and be able to manage your own time.
  • Must be physically able to be on feet for a complete shift while constantly bending, stretching, walking and lifting items weighing up to 20 kgs (45 lbs.)
  • Must be dependable.
  • Must be able to operate hand or power operated equipment.
  • Must have initiative and be able to work independently.
  • Must be detailed orientated.
  • An ability to communicate in Blackfoot would be considered an asset. 

Qualifications

NECESSARY TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Must have an updated WHMIS Certificate with one year’s related experience.
  • Must have a First Aid/CPR Certificate
  • Must submit an updated Criminal Record Check and Child Intervention Check
  • Must have a valid drivers license and a reliable mode of transportation.
