Job Description

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Kainai Bottle & Recycling Depot Cashier/Sorter is responsible for sorting and counting empty beverage containers brought in by the customers for recycling. The duties include helping customers unload containers, ensuring containers are sorted according to type and material. The Recycling Sorter will maintain cleanliness in the depot, provide customer service, and may handle cash or issue refunds. Attention to detail and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment are important in this role.

 

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:

-  The Bottle & Recycling Depot Cashier/ Sorter, reports directly to the Bottle Depot Coordinator

 

AREA OF SUPERVISION:

-  Positions which generally report to the Bottle Depot & Cashier/Sorter- None         

 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Blood Tribe Administration Policies and Procedures and the Family and Community Support Services Operations Manual.

 

  • Maintains proper records and forms are in order to deliver to the coordinator.

 

  • Ensure proper container counts are accurate in accordance with the By Laws of the Beverage Container Management Board & the Service Agreement of the Alberta Bottle Depot Association.

 

  • Assists in inspecting equipment & inventory

 

  • Counting bottle returns will be the main priority

 

  • Providing exceptional customer service by greeting and assisting customers in a friendly and professional manner

 

  • Process transactions accurately using the point of return

 

  • Must be proficient in handling cash and counting is a must.

 

  • Monitors site for safety and cleanliness

 

  • Resolves customer complaints

 

  • Any other duties as needed in the operation of the bottle depot.

 

 

NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS:

 

  • Must have good written and verbal communication skills.

 

  • Must be organized and manage own time effectively.

 

  • Must be highly motivated and creative.

 

  • Must be dependable and have initiative.

 

  • Must have computer knowledge & familiar with various database programs.

 

  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality.

 

  • Must have basic math skills in handling cash

 

  • Must be courteous and have excellent customer service skills dealing with the public

Qualifications

NECESSARY TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Must have minimum of a high school diploma.
  • Must have a minimum of three months related work or volunteer experience.
  • Must have a First Aid and CPR Certificate.
  • Must submit an updated Criminal Record Check.
