GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The CFM Program Support Worker performs duties under the guidance and supervision of the Tribal Government (TG) Director. They will assist in the development of civil and family mediation programming for Blood Tribe Members in civil matters such as mediation and taking referrals from civil and family court matters as well as Blood Tribe Social Agencies and the community.

 

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:

Reports to the Tribal Government Director

 

AREA OF SUPERVISION:

Positions that report directly to the CFM Support include:

                        None

                       

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs and duties in accordance with the Blood Tribe Administration Policies and Procedures manual.
  • Provides for civil and family mediation, booking and intake
  • Facilitates peace making sessions
  • Works with the Peacemakers/Elders as required
  • Receives referrals from Court, Community, and Blood Tribe agencies
  • Liaises with relevant Blood Tribe social service agencies including child & family services
  • Liaises with relevant Blood Tribe/Kainai justice programs
  • Liaises with Kainai Peacemaking Program and Gladue Support  
  • Liaises with relevant external justice and social agencies including Alberta Justice
  • Meets with all relevant social and justice agencies and to inform them of CFM services
  • Maintains an annual workplan
  • Develops relevant program policies and procedures
  • Maintains relevant data base on services provided
  • Identifies training needs for program
  • Attends meetings, prepares and delivers presentations as required
  • Provides monthly written reports to the Director
  • Must be available for training, workshops and conferences
  • Assists with other TG Justice programs as required
  • Assists with community events and ceremonies as relates to TG Justice programs
  • Performs other related duties. 

 

 NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS:

  • An understanding and appreciation of the concepts and practices of Restorative Justice including Kainai Peacemaking

 

  • Familiarity with the Albert court system including family and civil court

 

  • Familiar with Alberta statutes as they related to civil law and family law

 

  • Have an understanding and appreciation for the social issues faced by First Nations people coming into conflict with the law

 

  • Have experience in program development

 

  • Have good research and analytical skills

 

  • Be highly motivated and able to work independently

 

  • Possess a high-level of planning and organizational skills

 

  • Possess basic project management skills

 

  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills

 

  • Possess excellent interpersonal skills and ability to maintain good relationships with the Kainai community and the Justice community

 

  • Must have excellent computer skills and be proficient in the latest Microsoft software

 

  • Possess an understanding and appreciation of Blood Tribe culture, traditions and protocols.

 

  • Fluency in the Blackfoot language would be considered an asset.

Qualifications

NECESSARY TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Must possess post-secondary education in the social services field such as Counselling, Social Work, Mediation or Criminal Justice. With 3 years related work experience

 

  • A combination of education and experience maybe considered

 

  • Must submit an updated criminal record check along with and child intervention check.

 

  • Must have a valid drivers license with a reliable mode of transportation
